Inviting politely with ませんか
Open chapter 1 and use the word support directly below. Then read the invitation example aloud and point to the shared activity. Later, find the accepting response in chapter 3.
1. Replace ます with ませんか
Start with a familiar polite form, remove only ます, and add ませんか: 食べます → 食べませんか, 見ます → 見ませんか, and 散歩します → 散歩しませんか. Do not stack the endings.
一緒に makes the shared situation explicit. 一緒に映画を見ませんか gently asks whether the other person would like to join.

2. Invitation, negative statement, or neutral question
The shared context and final か make 食べませんか an invitation. Without か, 食べません is a negative statement. 食べますか is a neutral question asking whether someone eats.
Always read both the ending and the situation. A negative form by itself does not automatically mean an invitation.
3. Accept or decline softly
ええ、いいですね accepts positively. A short ええ can also fit. For a soft refusal, this lesson uses the fixed trailing response すみません、ちょっと…….
Do not translate ちょっと separately as ‘a little’ here. The pause politely signals that joining is difficult; a blunt reason is not required.

4. Carry out a new invitation
Choose a familiar activity, form the verb ending first, and then add the shared context. Let a fictional partner accept or decline softly.
Check that ませんか is one ending, the activity can logically be shared, and the response fits the chosen intention.
