Having things and plans with あります
Point only to 時間: that is what is or is not available.
1. What is present takes が in this pattern
あります says that an inanimate thing exists, is available, or is present for someone. In 私は時間があります, 私は establishes the person as topic; 時間が names what is available; あります confirms it.
Translate the whole pattern naturally: 私はお金があります means ‘I have money’. Within this frame, the present item comes before が. This does not change other functions of が.
2. ありません negates; schedules use the same frame
ありません is already a complete polite negative verb form; do not add です.
A time word frames the schedule: 明日、アルバイトがあります says a work shift is scheduled tomorrow. 明日、約束がありません says there is no appointment tomorrow. 明日 is a frame here, without a new に rule.
3. Presence is not identity
これはパソコンです answers ‘what is this?’; パソコンがあります answers ‘is there a computer?’. Their negatives preserve the distinction: パソコンではありません versus パソコンがありません.
In an existing conversation, アルバイトはありません can contrastively deny previously mentioned work. For your own neutral base sentence, N がありません remains the safe pattern. Do not infer a general は/が rule from this.
4. Scope and safe application
Use あります here for inanimate things, time, appointments, and activities. People and animals later require another existence form. Place に thing が あります is also outside this lesson.
ちょっと用事があります is a soft way to say you have something to do. Use a fictional schedule if preferred, so you can practise without sharing a personal fact.
